You know the idea of doing a ritual by pulling a card would be interesting...has anyone tried it?

i kind of like that idea, i'm thinking about doing that with some yoga classes this coming year, pulling a card the night before i teach, and using that card to inspire and dictate the class i teach...if it was legba, for example, i might do a little impromptu offering and meditation, then plan my class to be an opening kind of class...perhaps. it will be something i will experiment with to find inspiration this year.

brian, that would make for some interesting classes
ro, just pulling a card and doing a ritual is a great idea
especially since all the lwas have foods, colors, items that are associated with them
i have found though, that only certain lwas will come to me when i call hem
when i first got my deck, i would try to call the ones that i liled a lot~ i found that this did not really work...only the ones who wanted to work with me came.
another practitioner told me this was not so...all prayers to the lwas are heard...some just rather not *speak* with you at that time
even so, i know without a doubt there are certain lwas who will come if i ask them to,and some who will not
i wonder if this is so with other people as well

i have found that i tend to want to work with the same lwas on these cards over and over. so this year i'm going to try to branch out, and see who else comes.

legba always lingers around on the outside when i work with him, and erzulie freda always comes. i keep wanting to work with oya, but having attended a ceremony for oya in new orleans some years ago and witnessing some intense oya change that year, i'm also hesitant....i know she'll come though if i call.

i think it would be cool to keep this thread going, and maybe we can all do some impromptu rituals and report back. i went home for christmas, and i wish i had brought my deck with me now.

brian, your post made me smile...i have NEVER called oya for the very same reasons
i have always been like: oh no....i cant take any violatile energy!
i focused on gentle energies, or what i considered gentle energies. after years of being a die hard papa legba fan, i had to do some serious re adjusting when i learned more of the orisha community. the orishas folk think of legba as a VERY naughty WARRIOR and do all sort of things to get him NOT to come!
i was like: uum...why you doing my 'boo' like that? I want him to come!
lol...they would look at me like i was NUTS
but i have cultivated a very wonderful relationship with this lwa...be he naughty or not
and my life has been blessed by it
he will always be my 'boo'
i was even sad when i learned he was not my 'head'
while all those around me at the time were saying
thank god! a female legba would be AWFUL

but back to the lwas who come to you when you ask... i have tried ayida wedo, the marrassa, manman brigette and gran bwa all to no avail
the ayida wedo was strange too...but i ALWAYS got the initiattion card when i asked of my own condition
and she is the one for that
but she has not made herself known to me

interestingly, we had an intense episode with maman brigitte, when there was a problem going on with my mother being harassed. we went out to a graveyard, and left her an offering (we made little pile of rocks with cotton stuffed between) and called her for help. well, she came, and kind of put a whuppin' on the harasser in a manner of speaking. he was okay, but he suddenly stopped bothering my mom (seemingly out of the blue.) i think she is good in desperate cases when women are being treated unjustly. anyway, i've never really called gran bwa or ayida wedo myself...i'm still thinking about oya now. it might be time for some disturbance in my life.

oh, and ps: i love legba. love his energy, love the trickster feel to him....i was once told that i had a lot of kalfou energy around me and that to balance that i should call legba and work with him. i think we developed a little friendship. =)

In using this divination system, I have many times performed a service to the loa or orishas that come up within the reading. Mostly, I pay homage to them for the messages received by dancing for the spirits, making special offerings and praising their names in my sacred space at home.
A great book to have in addition is the Voodoo Visions. It is very possible to choose a card from either the deck or Visions and perform a ceremony. Yes, I have personally tried it and had good ju-ju from the ritual.
