New to the 'New Orleans Voodoo Tarot'

topic posted Sat, May 13, 2006 - 4:31 PM by  Steve
I have been looking at this deck for over a year, and recently bought it after much deliberation about whether it was right for me or not. I am very attracted to the at-style of the illustrations, but at the moment, am very new to both the deck and voodoo in general - so finding this place was a very nice surprise.

I am going to try and study the cards, one by one, in the hope of understanding them the best that I can. I wrote this post because I just wanted to say hello to you all and hoped that you might not mind my tagging along on your journey with this tarot pack. Look forward to meeting you all. I am very excited about the future with this particular tarot,

Kind Regards and Best wishes to you all,
Steve

    Hi, Steve!

It's been kind of quiet around here, so I hope with two new folks on board the activity will increase.

I look forward to hearing about how your relationship with the cards goes!

    All the best-
    Tyffin

Thank you both for your welcome.

With other tarot decks, I draw a card a day for reflection, to gage it's meaning and reflect on how it's energy may have played a part in my day, but because the 'New Orleans Voodoo Tarot' is quite different from traditional tarot, I think that each card might need that little bit longer to digest. So, I have decided to try and study it in 78 weeks, taking a card a week - seeing how it works with me daily, during the week, and also having enough time to digest the imagery, symbols and Kabbalistic references. Because I am new to Voodoo, it will mean I can take a little 'unrushed' time to research the deck properly and soak up what it has to say.

I hope that the group warms up a little wit some extra members, as well. Because I could do with a little help, I am sure. It is nice to not be alone on this journey and other's opinions and experiences would be most beneficial and appreicated. I will probably ramble on loads about what I feel the cards mean, and at times, it might be a bit 'off the general path' when it comes to Voodoo (out of my ignorance) but bear with me, lol.

I have started my study with the suit of Congo, rather than beginning with the majors. So for this week, in as many ways as possible, I will be working with 'Ayida Wedo'. I will start a thread a little later, with my first impressions. Hope that others will join in and share their wisdom.

      Best, Steve

          Ooo!
I like that too, Steve. A card a week with this deck sounds about right.
I have to admit on my first "run through" with the cards, I was befuddled, and confused.
But just letting the cards themselves and their magnificent art work speak to me, helped immensely in finding meaning.
I can't wait to hear what you have to share!

I hadn't any real background in Voodoo at the time I started with the Voodoo Tarot either, but the deck helped me in learning a lot about this majestic and imminently practical system...

Hola, Brian, thanx for concurring with my recommendation for Vodou Visions...!
